Clynelish 11 Years Old 2014 Càrn Mòr Strictly Limited (Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers)

From the bottler Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers, an 11 year old Clynelish, distilled in 2014, bottled at 55.6%, one of 265 bottles. Clynelish, built in 1967 beside the old Brora distillery, is known for its signature waxy texture. Its waxy character, a candle wax and beeswax texture, is prized above almost any other by blenders.

Run through copper stills on Clynemilton Burn water, for the famous waxy texture at its heart. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, vanilla and honey behind the wax. By the integrating teens congeners fade and esters build, the waxy, oily spirit growing rounder. The slow loss of the angel's share concentrates the waxy, citrussy core over the years. Long ageing turns the fresh lemon towards candied orange, beeswax and tropical fruit. The distillery was built in 1967 next to the original Clynelish of 1819, which was renamed Brora and later closed.

At a full 55.6% it is bold yet waxy. Beeswax, citrus and a honeyed oil, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Beneath it run candle wax, lemon and a coastal salt. The close is long, wax over a citrus lift. This is Clynelish's oily, coastal Highland style.
