Description
A Clynelish of a 23 year old chosen by the bottler Milroy's of Soho, distilled in 1997, from cask 12359, bottled at 53.3%. Clynelish is a coastal Highland distillery at Brora in Sutherland, famous for its waxy single malt. The famous wax is said to come from the build up in the distillery's feints receivers.
It was distilled for the waxy, oily spirit Clynelish is known for, for a maritime spirit with a beeswax richness. A bourbon barrel held it, vanilla and a little coconut under the wax. In the oxidative, evaporative years concentration brings tropical esters of mango and pineapple over a deep, beeswax richness. The wax sits at the heart of the spirit, the cask building fruit and honey around it. The oily, waxy texture is the signature that blenders prize above all. The slow loss of the angel's share concentrates the waxy, citrussy core over the years. A coastal maturation lends a faint brine to the waxy, oily spirit.
At a full 53.3% it is bold yet waxy. The famous wax over lemon and orange, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The texture is thick and oily, the wax coating the palate. Citrus, wax and a faint brine see out the finish. This is the cult waxy malt of Brora.
