From the retailer Master of Malt, a 52 year old Carsebridge single grain, distilled in 1964, from cask 89153, bottled at 41.7%. Carsebridge, a lost grain distillery in Clackmannanshire, fell silent in 1983. It was transferred to Scottish Grain Distillers in 1966 and closed in 1983 in the DCL consolidation.

The spirit was worked through continuous stills from grain, to build a soft, sweet grain character. A refill American oak cask held it, the wood lending the deep coconut of old grain. At this great, fragile age the grain is rich and waxy, sotolon lending a maple depth over deep coconut and old oak. The high strength spirit mellows slowly into a soft, sweet old grain. Patient ageing gives the oily, waxy texture prized in old single grain. With the distillery long gone, every bottle draws on a finite, dwindling stock. The clean grain base lets the cask speak clearly across the long years. No more will ever be made, the distillery silent since 1983.

At its natural 41.7% it is concentrated. Oak lactones lend a deep coconut and vanillin a sweet vanilla, with a crème brûlée richness. It is clean and sweet, the old grain shining through. It closes long, sweet and oily. This is the deep, sweet old grain of Carsebridge.
