A 25 year old Caperdonich from the bottler Morrison and MacKay, 1992, at 58.9%. Creamy and oily, the fruit turning tropical with age. Caperdonich was the sister distillery of Glen Grant, across the road in Rothes. Rarely bottled in its lifetime, most Caperdonich comes from independents. This is the creamy, fruity ghost of Glen Grant’s sister.

Description
A 25 year old Caperdonich, this distilled in 1992 from the bottler Morrison and MacKay, from cask 121141, bottled at 58.9%, one of 240 bottles. Caperdonich stood opposite Glen Grant in Rothes, built to share in its sister's success. It was built in 1898 by J and J Grant of Glen Grant, as Glen Grant No.2, to meet the whisky boom.
It was made in tall copper stills for a light, fruity spirit, for a delicate Speyside spirit with a creamy lift. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, the oak quiet behind the spirit. In the oxidative, evaporative years concentration brings tropical esters of mango and pineapple over a waxy cream. The light, creamy spirit takes cask flavour readily while keeping its pear and mint. It reopened in 1965 to feed Glen Grant's booming Italian trade, and took the Caperdonich name in 1977. The oily, waxy texture is a mark of well aged Caperdonich. With Caperdonich demolished, every bottle draws on a finite, dwindling stock.
At a natural 58.9% it is full and oily. Mango, pear and a soft vanilla, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A tropical fruit and a gentle oak give it depth. A long, fruity finish carries a tropical lift. This is a single malt from a silent Speyside distillery.
