A Caperdonich of a 23 year old from the independent Ian Macleod, at 58.2%. Pear, vanilla and a green mint over a waxy body. With the distillery gone, every bottle is from a finite, dwindling stock. Its four stills were dispersed when the distillery was dismantled. This is a rare single malt from a distillery now gone.

Description
A Caperdonich drawn by the independent Ian Macleod, distilled in 1995, from cask 95064, bottled at 58.2%, one of 226 bottles. Caperdonich, a lost Speyside distillery in Rothes, fell silent in 2002. Chivas released a Secret Speyside range of official Caperdonich in 2019, aged eighteen to thirty years.
It was distilled in tall stills with their spherical condensation zone, to build a clean, waxy, fruity character. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, the oak quiet behind the spirit. In these late years the spirit concentrates to a waxy, tropical depth held in an ellagitannin frame. Maturation in the cool north east kept the spirit fresh across long years. It was built in 1898 by J and J Grant of Glen Grant, as Glen Grant No.2, to meet the whisky boom. Active wood frames the fruit without smothering the soft, creamy spirit. It closed in 1902 after the Pattison crash, lying silent for over sixty years. With Caperdonich demolished, every bottle draws on a finite, dwindling stock.
Bottled at a cask strength 58.2%, it is rich. Cream, orchard fruit and a gentle spice, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A baked pear and a soft spice lift it. The finish is deep, waxy and tropical. This is a creamy, tropical Speyside single malt of real age.
