Description
Bottled by The Vintage Malt Whisky Co Ltd, this Cameronbridge, a 28 year old single grain distilled in 1992, from cask 115061 and bottled at 48.5%. The outturn was 288 bottles. Cameronbridge is a vast Lowland grain distillery in Fife, working since 1824. Its single grain has long been sold as Cameron Brig, and since 2014 as Haig Club.
It was worked through column stills from wheat, for the light, sweet grain spirit Cameronbridge is known for. A refill American oak cask held it, building the sweet, oily grain character. By this age the sweet spirit rounds into vanilla, coconut and a soft oil. Years in cask build a waxy, polished depth over the clean grain spirit. The site was expanded again in 2007 in a forty million pound investment. The Haig name has been tied to Scottish distilling since the 17th century. It was the home of continuous distillation in Scotland, making the country's first commercial grain whisky. A founding member of the Distillers Company in 1877, it is now Diageo's largest distillery.
Bottled at a cask strength 48.5%, it is rich. The ex-Bourbon gives coconut, vanilla and toffee. A butterscotch and a creamy oak lift it. A sweet, coconut led finish lingers. This is a Lowland single grain from Fife.
