Description
A Cameronbridge single grain, selected and bottled by Douglas Laing, a 28 year old release distilled in 1991, from cask DL 14192 and bottled at 52.6%. Just 337 bottles were filled. Founded in 1824 by John Haig, Cameronbridge is the oldest and largest grain distillery in Scotland. John Haig's cousin Robert Stein invented the continuous still, and Cameronbridge was among the first to run one.
It was drawn from continuous Coffey stills for a light grain spirit, for a delicate spirit that leans on the cask with age. A sherry cask wrapped the sweet grain in dried fruit and a nutty depth. By this age the sweet spirit rounds into vanilla, coconut and a soft oil. The high strength spirit mellows slowly into a soft, sweet old grain. John Haig's cousin Robert Stein invented the continuous still, and Cameronbridge was among the first to run one. The Haig distilling dynasty traces its roots in Scottish whisky back to the 1600s.
At a natural 52.6% it is full and oily. The Oloroso brings dried fruit and a nutty depth over the sweet grain. Soft toffee and vanilla sit behind the sweetness. A sweet, coconut led finish lingers. This is a soft, oily single grain from Cameronbridge.
