Description
Alambic Classique bottled this Cameronbridge single grain matured to 41 year old distilled in 1976, from cask 18306 and bottled at 47.3%. Only 86 bottles were released. Set in Fife, Cameronbridge has made grain whisky since 1824, the oldest plant of its kind in Scotland. Water comes from Loch Leven, the mash from wheat, the spirit drawn off three column stills.
Distilled continuously in column stills from wheat, on Loch Leven water, giving a clean, mellow grain whisky. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, the wood adding coconut and vanilla. Beyond thirty years the grain grows deep and oily, coconut, butterscotch and crème brûlée over polished oak. Grain whisky like this rewards long maturation, the wood adding most of the character. Its single grain has long been sold as Cameron Brig, and since 2014 as Haig Club. Water comes from Loch Leven, the mash from wheat, the spirit off three column stills.
At 47.3%, undiluted, it is deep and sweet. The ex-Bourbon gives coconut, vanilla and toffee. The mouthfeel is oily, the coconut carried on a sweet body. A long, oily finish carries a coconut lift. This is the grain behind Cameron Brig and Haig Club.
