This Cambus was from the independent bottler That Boutique-y Whisky Company, a 28 year old and bottled at 50.9%. 443 bottles in all. A lost Lowland grain distillery near Alloa, Cambus distilled from around 1806 until 1993. Single grain Cambus is rare, mostly from independent bottlers, with the odd Diageo Special Release.

It was worked through continuous column stills from grain, for the light, sweet grain spirit Cambus was known for. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak for decades, the wood adding coconut and vanilla. Beyond twenty five years the grain grows deep and oily, coconut, butterscotch and crème brûlée over polished oak. The clean grain base lets the cask speak clearly across long years. The distillery stood near Alloa, in the old brewing and distilling country of the River Devon. With no new spirit since 1993, every bottle draws on a finite, dwindling stock. Cambus was founded around 1806 by John Moubray on the River Devon in Clackmannanshire, one of Scotland's oldest grain distilleries.

At a natural 50.9% it is full and oily. The ex-Bourbon gives toffee, vanilla and a soft oil. Soft toffee and vanilla sit behind the sweetness. It finishes clean, sweet and buttery. This is an old Lowland single grain of real character.
