Wolfburn Single Cask Release 2014, a single malt from the far north distillery at Thurso from 2014, cask 168, bottled at 57%. Just 270 bottles were filled. Wolfburn is a far north craft distillery at Thurso in Caithness, working by hand since 2013. The core range runs Northland, Aurora, Morven and Langskip, each named for the far north.

Distilled slowly on soft Wolf Burn water, giving the clean, fruity coastal spirit. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, with vanilla under the fresh fruit. With no age statement, it shows the light, fresh, fruity character of young Wolfburn. Refill oak lets the fresh, fruity distillery character lead. Most of the make is unpeated, with a lightly peated malt distilled since 2014 for a soft smoke. The core range runs Northland, Aurora, Morven and Langskip, names drawn from the far north. The Kylver Series gathers single casks named for the runes of an ancient Caithness stone.

At its natural 57% it is concentrated. Apple, citrus and a clean malt, and vanilla and a soft oak come from the bourbon wood. The mouthfeel is light, the fruit carried on a clean body. A long, fruity finish carries a coastal lift. This is a clean, fruity Highland single malt.
