Description
A Tullibardine single malt, bottled by The Caskhound, aged 13 year old from 2010, drawn from cask 652711 and bottled at 51.6%. A release of 161 bottles. Tullibardine, established in 1949 beneath the Ochil Hills at Blackford, is known for its wine cask finishes. Water comes from the Ochil Hills springs, the same source as the Highland Spring bottled water.
Distilled on soft Highland spring water, building the gentle Tullibardine style. Ex-Sherry wood added a dried fruit richness to the soft make. Past a decade the malt deepens into honey, toffee and a soft orchard fruit. The soft, fruity spirit takes a wine finish particularly well, in the Picard house style. Part of the old estate was turned into a retail outlet during the lean years. The distillery sits just off the A9 near Gleneagles, one of Scotland's more accessible. Under French wine ownership the distillery has leaned into its cask finishes.
At a natural 51.6% it is full and honeyed. The Pedro Ximenez lends raisin, date and treacle, and a malty, honeyed sweetness sit alongside honeyed oak sweetness underneath. A baked apple and a gentle ginger lift it. A honeyed, lightly spiced finish lingers. This is Tullibardine, the lookout hill malt.
