Description
This Tullibardine was drawn and bottled by Jack Wiebers Whisky World matured to 25 year old from 1993 and bottled at 42.3%. Only 82 bottles were released. Tullibardine, first built in 1949 in Perthshire, off the A9, is known for its wine cask finishes. Mothballed in 1994, the distillery was revived in 2003 and bought by the French wine house Picard in 2011.
The spirit was made in copper stills for a soft, fruity make, for a fruity, mellow make. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, with vanilla under the malt. Past twenty years the spirit turns honeyed and full while staying soft. The light, malty make leans on the cask for much of its colour and flavour. Delme-Evans, a noted gravity flow designer, also drew up the Jura and GlenAllachie distilleries. The malt also feeds the Highland Queen blend, another brand in the Picard stable. Part of the old estate was turned into a retail outlet during the lean years.
At 42.3% it is supple and mellow. Vanilla and a light toffee from the barrel runs under a mellow, honeyed character. A dried fruit and a soft oak give it depth. The finish is rounded, honeyed and gentle. This is a gentle, honeyed Highland single malt.
