Description
An official Tullibardine single malt, bottled at 43%. Tullibardine was established in 1949 in Blackford, on the edge of the Highlands, and it distils, matures and bottles on one site. It stands on a site with five hundred years of brewing; King James IV bought ale at Blackford in 1488.
It was drawn off copper pot stills fed by the Danny Burn, for a soft, vanilla scented spirit. A Sauternes or fortified cask gave a honeyed, fruity depth. No age is given, but the honeyed softness marks it as Tullibardine. Bourbon wood frames the make with vanilla, the wine casks adding fruit. The malt also feeds the Highland Queen blend, another brand in the Picard stable. Part of the old estate was turned into a retail outlet during the lean years. The distillery sits just off the A9 near Gleneagles, one of Scotland's more accessible.
At an approachable 43% it is soft and balanced. The Sauternes lends honey, apricot and a candied sweetness, and a gentle vanilla from the wood runs under apple, honey and a gentle spice. It is fruity and soft, the fruit and oak well matched. A long, honeyed finish carries a fruity lift. This is a honeyed Highland single malt from Perthshire.
