Tormore 7 Years Old 2015 Cask #325 (The Vintage Malt Whisky Co Ltd.)

This is a Tormore single malt, chosen and bottled by The Vintage Malt Whisky Co Ltd, a 7 year old from 2015, drawn from cask 325 and bottled at 57%. A release of 360 bottles. Built in the late 1950s in the Spey valley near Grantown, Tormore is a grand Speyside distillery. It was the first new malt distillery built in Scotland in the 20th century, raised for the booming Long John blend.

The spirit was made in copper stills whose purifiers keep the spirit light, for a light, nutty make of real clarity. A sherry cask wrapped the light spirit in dried fruit and a nutty depth. Still young, the malt is light and nutty with a citrus lift. Sherry wood suits the light make, lending dried fruit and a nutty depth. Heat recovery condensers and sub coolers run alongside the purifier stills. The soft water runs through heather and peat and granite before reaching the distillery.

At cask strength 57% it is muscular yet clean. The Oloroso brings dried fruit, fig and a nutty depth, and vanilla and a light cream from the barrel runs under a clean, nutty character. Soft orchard fruit and nut sit behind the sweetness. A nutty, gently spiced finish lingers. This is a structured, nutty Speysider.
