Description
This is a Tormore single malt, chosen and bottled by The Caskhound, a 12 year old release from 2008, drawn from cask 701237 and bottled at 56.5%. Only 184 bottles were released. Tormore was opened in 1960 on the A95 in the heart of Speyside, and it is now owned by Elixir Distillers. The granite buildings carry copper roofs and a musical clock that plays four Scottish songs each quarter hour.
Distilled in swan neck stills fitted with purifiers, on soft Achvochkie Burn water, giving the structured, nutty Speyside spirit. Maturation in a sherry cask laid dried fruit over the nutty malt. At this age the spirit is fresh and nutty, the apple and citrus bright. The cool Speyside climate gives a slow, even maturation over the years. Its granite buildings, copper roofs and musical clock earned it listed status in 1986. A workers' village was built nearby in the same striking style.
At a full 56.5% it is intense yet nutty. Raisin and a nutty sherry depth build, and the refill oak lending honey and vanilla runs under a clean, nutty character. Soft orchard fruit and nut sit behind the sweetness. It finishes clean, fresh and nutty. This is a structured, nutty Speysider.
