This is a Ledaig, chosen and bottled by Wilson & Morgan, a 23 year old from 1998, drawn from cask 800033 and bottled at 57.1%. A release of 524 bottles. Ledaig is the smoky side of Tobermory distillery on the Isle of Mull, one of Scotland's oldest distilleries. The single malts are bottled without chill filtration at 46.3 percent or higher.

Distilled from peated malt in kinked copper stills on soft Mull water, giving a sooty, coastal peat smoke over a fruity sweetness. A sherry butt held it, sherry and smoke twining together. Past twenty years the peat is a soft whisper over a deep, fruity malt. A patient maturation suits the bold, smoky Ledaig character. Mull's maritime climate works into the maturing casks over the years. It is one of the oldest commercial distilleries in Scotland still working. Tobermory has distilled in the island's harbour town since 1798. The town of Tobermory was laid out by the British Fisheries Society a decade before the distillery came.

At cask strength 57.1% it is muscular. Peat smoke, brine and a medicinal note, and the Oloroso brings dried fruit, fig and a nutty depth. A BBQ char and a sea salt lift it. Soot and brine see out a long finish. This is Ledaig, the peated malt of the Isle of Mull.
