Tobermory 7 Years Old 2015 Cask #325961 (Rolf Kaspar GmbH)

Rolf Kaspar GmbH selected this Tobermory, a 7 year old from 2015, drawn from cask 325961 and bottled at 52.5%. A release of 255 bottles. Tobermory, the unpeated malt of the Isle of Mull, comes from one of Scotland's oldest distilleries. The stills carry boil bulbs and an S shaped kink in the lyne arms, which raises reflux.

Distilled from unpeated malt in kinked copper stills on soft Mull water, giving the oily, fruity island make. Ex-Sherry wood added a dried fruit richness to the oily make. At a youthful age the fruit is lively and the malt waxy. A patient maturation suits the oily, fruity Tobermory character. In dry summers the distillery has paused when its hill loch ran low. The distillery sits at the head of the bay, beneath a steep wooded hill. Both malts feed the Scottish Leader and Black Bottle blends as well as single malt. The distillery was refurbished and its stills renewed between 2017 and 2019.

At a natural 52.5% it is bold and full. Orchard fruit, wax and a nutty note, and the Madeira lends raisin and a caramelised nuttiness. Beneath it run orchard fruit, wax and a soft nut. It closes long, waxy and fruity. This is Tobermory, the unpeated malt of the Isle of Mull.
