Description
From Brühler Whiskyhaus comes this Ledaig, a 13 year old release and bottled at 53.1%. A release of 168 bottles. Made on the Isle of Mull, Ledaig is the heavily peated malt of the island's only distillery. It is one of Scotland's oldest distilleries, and the only one on its island.
It was distilled from malt peated to around thirty seven parts per million, building the bold, smoky Ledaig style. A sherry butt held it, sherry and smoke twining together. Past a decade the smoke softens, the soot and brine settling over ripe fruit. The heavily peated spirit holds its smoke well across long maturation. Both malts feed the Scottish Leader and Black Bottle blends as well as single malt. The distillery was refurbished and its stills renewed between 2017 and 2019. Mull's maritime climate works into the maturing casks over the years. It is one of the oldest commercial distilleries in Scotland still working.
At a natural 53.1% it is bold and full. Wood smoke, BBQ char and a coastal salt, and the Oloroso lends raisin, walnut and a dried fruit richness. It is bold and coastal, the peat and soot to the fore. It finishes smoky, salty and warming. This is a heavily peated malt from Mull's only distillery.
