Bottled by Keeble Cask Company Ltd, this Glasgow, a 5 year old Glasgow malt from 2018, drawn from cask 193 and bottled at 61.1%. 232 bottles in all. The Glasgow Distillery Company took its 1770 name from the city's old Dundashill distillery, and revived Glasgow malt in 2012. The first malt casks were filled in 2015, and the first single malt was released in 2018.
The spirit was worked through copper pot stills for a clean, fruity spirit, for the fresh, fruity make at the heart of the 1770 style. It was matured in ex-Bourbon oak, lending vanilla and honey. Active first fill wood pulls colour and flavour quickly into the young spirit. The distillery is known for an adventurous cask policy, from Cognac and Marsala to Port and Tequila. The 1770 single malt comes in three styles: The Original, the Peated and the Triple Distilled. Water is drawn from Loch Katrine, and the whisky is bottled at natural colour without chill filtration.
Undiluted at 61.1%, it is powerful. Green apple and a creamy malt lead, and the ex-Bourbon lends vanilla, honey and a soft apple. Soft orchard fruit sits behind the cask sweetness. It closes bright, fruity and warm. This is a vibrant young malt from the city of Glasgow.
