Description
A distillery release of 1770 Glasgow, drawn from cask Batch 02 and bottled at 59.5%. Just 750 bottles were filled. The Glasgow Distillery Company opened in Hillington in 2012, the first malt distillery in Glasgow since 1902. The 1770 name recalls that original Glasgow distillery, founded in 1770 at Dundashill.
Run through the distillery's copper pot stills, to build a clean, orchard fruit character. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, American oak giving vanilla. Years in active oak round the young spirit and add the cask's own character. The 1770 single malt comes in three styles: The Original, the Peated and the Triple Distilled. Water is drawn from Loch Katrine, and the whisky is bottled at natural colour without chill filtration. It sits in Hillington Business Park in the southwest of Glasgow, just off the M8. Founders Liam Hughes and Mike Hayward set out to bring single malt back to the city.
At a hearty 59.5% it carries real punch. Orchard fruit and a light honey lead, and the ex-Bourbon lends vanilla, honey and a soft apple. The texture is young and lively, the fruit lifted by oak. A long, fruity finish carries a vanilla lift. This is Glasgow's revived single malt, the 1770.
