This 1770 Glasgow single malt, a 6 year old Glasgow malt from 2020, drawn from cask 20/1627 and 20/1629 and bottled at 57.8%. The outturn was 690 bottles. The Glasgow Distillery Company was founded in 2012 and revived single malt distilling in Glasgow after more than a century. The distillery is known for adventurous cask maturation, from Cognac and Marsala to Port and Tequila.

The spirit was worked through copper pot stills for a clean, fruity spirit, for the fresh, fruity make at the heart of the 1770 style. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak for a honeyed sweetness. The casks here are very active, and on a young spirit they work fast, giving real depth in just a few years. Its 1770 name recalls the old Glasgow Distillery at Dundashill, founded in 1770 and closed in 1902. Makar Gin came first, in 2014, and helped fund the return of whisky to the city. The first single malt casks were filled in 2015, the first whisky released in 2018.

At a natural 57.8% it is bold and full. Green apple and a creamy malt lead, and the ex-Bourbon lends vanilla, honey and a soft apple. Soft orchard fruit sits behind the cask sweetness. Orchard fruit and a soft oak see out the finish. This is a cask driven young Lowland malt from Glasgow.
