Description
An independent Teaninich, selected and bottled by The House of MacDuff, a 9 year old Highland malt from 2007, drawn from cask CM 229 and bottled at 62.3%. Just 301 bottles were filled. Teaninich, a large Highland distillery beside the River Averon at Alness, was founded in 1817 by a Napoleonic veteran. There are no warehouses on site; the spirit is matured in Diageo's central stores.
Mashed through a mash filter for an ultra clear wort and distilled in fat copper stills, giving the fresh, green spirit at its heart. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, lending honey and vanilla. Younger here, it keeps a clean, grassy freshness over a waxy texture. A patient maturation suits the light, grassy Teaninich character. By the 1970s Teaninich was already one of the largest distilleries in Scotland. The River Averon runs beside the distillery on its way to the firth. A long fermentation builds the fresh, green fruit the blenders prize.
At a hearty 62.3% it carries real weight. The refill oak lending honey and vanilla runs under a clean, green fruitiness. A green tea and a lemon note lift it. It closes clean, grassy and waxy. This is a fresh, oily Highland single malt.
