Description
This Teaninich was an independent Brühler Whiskyhaus bottling, a 21 year old Highland malt and bottled at 53.2%. A release of 469 bottles. Set at Alness in Easter Ross, Teaninich has distilled since 1817. It is the only Scotch malt distillery to mash through a mash filter rather than a mash tun.
It was worked through the distillery's stills from a very clear wort, for the light, grassy, oily make Teaninich is known for. Ex-Bourbon casks held the spirit, soft oak that lets the grass lead. Past twenty years the spirit turns honeyed and waxy while keeping its green lift. The unpeated spirit lets the wood and the green fruit speak without smoke. Robert Innes Cameron, an Elgin blender, became sole owner in 1904. The Munro family ran the distillery through two generations before selling. The Cromarty Firth nearby is one of few UK waters home to bottlenose dolphins. A long fermentation of around 75 hours builds the fresh, fruity notes.
At a hearty 53.2% it carries real weight. A grassy, waxy freshness sit alongside a quiet vanilla from the refill oak. A green tea and a lemon note lift it. A grassy, gently spiced finish lingers. This is the green tea malt of Easter Ross.
