Description
From Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers comes this Tamnavulin, aged 13 year old from 2009 and bottled at 47.5%. Only 1185 bottles were released. Tamnavulin was founded in 1966 on the banks of the River Livet; it is named for the old mill that stood on its site. It is one of the few distilleries that sits right on the River Livet.
It was drawn off stills whose purifiers lift only the lightest vapours, for a delicate, floral spirit. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, gentle American oak beneath the fruit. Mid age brings a deeper honey and a riper orchard fruit. The cool Speyside climate gives a slow, even maturation over the years. The name is Gaelic for mill on the hill, a nod to the old mill on its grounds. Tamnavulin sits in Glen Livet, close to Glenlivet, Braeval and Tomintoul. The light, clean make takes a cask finish particularly well. The site is home to one of Scotland's largest bat colonies.
At a hearty 47.5% it carries real weight. A gentle vanilla from the wood, with pear, hay and a floral lift. The texture is light and smooth, the fruit lifted by honey. Honey and orchard fruit see out the finish. This is the mill on the hill malt of Glen Livet.
