Description
A Tamnavulin single malt, selected and bottled by Moon-Import, a 24 year old release from 1966 and bottled at 45%. Opened in 1966 during the whisky boom at Tomnavoulin, deep in Glen Livet, Tamnavulin is a light Speyside malt. The modern range is known for its cask finishes, the motto single malt, double flavour.
Distilled in copper stills fitted with purifiers, for a light spirit, giving the soft, grassy spirit at its heart. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, lending honey and vanilla. Past twenty years the spirit turns honeyed and full while keeping its finesse. A patient maturation suits the light, fruity Tamnavulin character. It is one of the few distilleries to sit right on the River Livet. For decades the malt fed the Whyte and Mackay blends rather than single malt. Mothballed in 1995, the distillery reopened in 2007 and launched its single malt in 2016. Purifiers on the spirit stills keep only the lightest vapours, for a delicate spirit.
Reduced to 45%, it is mellow. The refill oak lending honey and vanilla runs under honey, apple and a gentle spice. It is light and fruity, the fruit and oak well matched. The finish runs light, fresh and gentle. This is a fruity Speyside single malt of real charm.
