Claxton's bottled this Tamdhu single malt, a 9 year old Speyside malt from 2013, drawn from cask C23086 and bottled at 55.8%. A release of 69 bottles. Tamdhu was first built in 1897 by a blending consortium on the banks of the Spey in Speyside, and it has been the sherried face of Speyside since its revival. Tamdhu ran the last Saladin box maltings in Scotland, the boxes still standing on site.

Distilled in copper onion stills on Tamdhu Spring water, for a rich Speyside spirit built to take sherry wood. A sherry butt held it, the wood lending raisin and walnut. Still young, the malt is fruity and sherried with a soft spice. Years in oak round the spirit, the dried fruit and spice deepening with age. An in house cooperage was set up in 2019 to manage its sherry casks. Tamdhu sits among the great sherried Speysiders, a sister to Macallan in style. The Spey valley's cool air gives a slow, even maturation in the warehouses.

At cask strength 55.8% it is rich and full. The Oloroso brings fig, raisin and a gentle ginger. It is full and deep, the sherried spirit shining through. It finishes rich, fruity and warming. This is a rich, sherried Speyside single malt.
