Description
A distillery bottling of Strathearn, a Private Cask Club bottling, aged 4 year old distilled in 2014, from cask 070 and bottled at 56.3%. Just 50 bottles were filled. Founded in 2013, Strathearn is among the smallest distilleries in Scotland, set in a Perthshire farm steading. Its two tiny stills are alembic copper pots made in Portugal, more often seen in brandy.
It was drawn off a pair of tiny pot stills, hand worked in the old steading, for a bold, fruity make from tiny stills. A small sherry cask drove a quick, rich dried fruit character. At this young age the small casks have already given real depth, the fruit vivid. The tiny casks pack a lot of oak into a young spirit, far quicker than a standard barrel. The spirit matures in small fifty litre casks, a quarter the size of a standard barrel. Every batch is an experiment, double or triple distilled, peated or unpeated.
Bottled at a cask strength 56.3%, it is intense. The Oloroso brings dried fruit, fig and a nutty depth over a fruity, oily spirit. The texture is oily and bold, the fruit lifted by active oak. The finish runs bold, spiced and lively. This is Strathearn's hand crafted Perthshire single malt.
