Meadowside Blending selected this Springbank, a 24 year old from 1992, drawn from cask 212214 and bottled at 47.1%. A release of 244 bottles. Established in 1828, Springbank is campbeltown's most revered surviving distillery. Bottles are released in small batches, often through ballots to meet the demand.

The spirit was run through the distillery's part triple distillation, the malt floor malted and gently peated, the vapour cooled in worm tubs. Maturation in a sherry cask laid dried fruit over the maritime malt. At this age it is rich and complex, the fruit folded into a waxy, briny body. Everything is done on site, the spirit going from still to cask to bottle in Campbeltown. Springbank, Longrow and Hazelburn each show a different face of the one distillery. The open larch washbacks are a rare survival in modern Scotch. The distillery has become a place of pilgrimage for whisky enthusiasts.

Undiluted at 47.1%, it is intense. Brine, wax and a light peat note are layered with dried fruit and a walnut richness. Soft fruit and brine sit behind the cask sweetness. Sea salt and fruit draw out the close. This is Springbank's rich, oily, maritime style.
