Description
This is a Speyside Distillery single malt, chosen and bottled by Blackadder, aged 9 year old from 2015, drawn from cask 10087 and bottled at 59.3%. The outturn was 254 bottles. The Speyside Distillery was built by hand on a former barley mill site at Tromie Mills, the most southerly Speyside distillery, and its entire production sits under a single roof. It is the most southerly of the Speyside distilleries, nearest of all to the source of the Spey.
Distilled on River Tromie water in a tiny pair of pot stills, building the gentle Speyside style it is loved for. A virgin oak cask gave vanilla, baking spice and coconut. At a youthful age the orchard fruit is lively and the malt delicate. The slow loss of the angel's share concentrates the honeyed, fruity core over time. Short stills and slow, hands on distillation coax a light, fruity spirit. The site was a working barley mill from the 1700s until 1965.
Undiluted at 59.3%, it is layered. The virgin oak gives vanilla, baking spice and coconut, and a light, fruity sweetness meet soft vanilla and honey from the cask. Beneath it run apple, honey and a soft spice. It closes long, fruity and honeyed. This is a light, fruity Speyside single malt.
