Description
This official Speyburn single malt and bottled at 40%. Speyburn was first built in 1897 in a sheltered Speyside glen by the Granty Burn, and it has made its fruity Speyside malt for over a century. Inver House runs it alongside Old Pulteney, Balblair and anCnoc.
Distilled on Granty Burn water through onion stills with worm tubs, building the classic Speyside style it is loved for. A wine cask shaped it, the fruit and tannin meeting the fresh spirit. With no age statement, it shows a fresh, fruity body and a honeyed lift. The worm tub weight carries cask flavour while keeping the Speyside finesse. A long fermentation builds the fruity esters that mark the house style. One of the best selling malts abroad, it stays quietly under appreciated at home. The classic onion stills and worm tubs give a fresh yet rounded Speyside spirit. Hopkins also owned Tobermory on Mull when he built Speyburn in 1897.
At an easy 40% it is gentle. The wine cask lends red berry and a soft spice, and fragrant honey and ripe fruit meet honeyed oak sweetness underneath. Soft orchard fruit and vanilla sit behind the sweetness. It closes long, fruity and honeyed. This is an easy going, honeyed Speyside malt.
