Mc o'Isles 2007 HoMc The Declaration of Arbroath 700 years (House of McCallum) is a blended malt Scotch from House of McCallum, an Islands vatting of single malts. Blended malts marry whisky from more than one distillery into a house style. House of McCallum bottles its Mc o'Isles range to showcase the islands' malts.
A blended malt brings together single malts from several distilleries, here from Scotland's islands. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, lending honey and vanilla. The malts are married into a soft, fruity and lightly maritime whole. Maturation on Orkney, by the sea, gives a clean, maritime lift. A blended malt marries single malts from more than one distillery into a house style. The islands lend a soft, fruity character with a gentle salt air. The maker selects malts for the balance each brings to the whole. A period of marrying lets the malts settle into one another.
At an easy 46.2% it is gentle. Honey, orchard fruit and a soft spice run through it, with a gentle island salt air. The texture is creamy and oily, the fruit lifted by honey. Tropical fruit and a faint brine see out a long finish. A soft, fruity islands blended malt.
