Malts of Scotland bottled this Rosebank single malt, a 30 year old Lowland malt, from 1990, drawn from cask MoS 21001 and bottled at 50.5%. 128 bottles in all. Rosebank, first established in 1840 on the banks of the canal in the central Lowlands, was silenced in 1993. Its triple distilled malt became a Lowland legend.

The spirit was run three times through copper pot stills, then cooled in worm tubs, for a light, ester rich spirit with unusual body. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, the wood adding only a light honeyed sweetness. Long ageing brings a waxy depth, candied fruit and a mellow grassy note. Triple distillation strips heavy congeners, concentrating light esters such as ethyl hexanoate, giving pear and apple notes. The closed era stock is finite, and every bottle drawn is one fewer left. Rosebank stood on the Forth and Clyde Canal, which once carried its casks to market.

At a hearty 50.5% it carries real weight. Marzipan and soft tropical fruit meet soft vanilla and honey from the cask. Beneath it run lemon, grass and a waxy weight. A delicate, fruity finish lingers long. This is a revered triple distilled malt from a distillery silent for thirty years.
