Description
A Rosebank single malt, selected and bottled by Gordon & MacPhail, a 25 year old from 1990, drawn from cask RO/15/11 and bottled at 46%. A release of 602 bottles. Rosebank was first established in 1840 at Falkirk, on the Lowland canal side and closed in 1993 and long mourned. A rebuilt Rosebank opened in 2023, while bottles like this remain from the old.
Drawn off after a third distillation and condensed slowly in worm tubs, the make took the Rosebank style. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, gentle American oak beneath the fruit. Past twenty years the spirit turns honeyed and tropical while keeping its finesse. Worm tub condensers slow the copper contact, lending a fuller body to the light Lowland spirit. Water came from the Carron Valley, feeding a light, ester rich Lowland spirit. The 108 foot chimney remained a Falkirk landmark through the long silent decades. Its final vintages of the early 1990s are among the most sought after of all Lowland malts.
Reduced to 46%, it is mellow. A delicate floral, waxy depth sit alongside honeyed oak sweetness underneath. It is clean and elegant, the grassy spirit shining through. It closes long, floral and honeyed. This is a finite pour from the King of the Lowlands.
