Lady of the Glen bottled this Old Pulteney single malt matured to 13 year old, from 2012, drawn from cask 800134 and bottled at 58.9%. A release of 241 bottles. Established in 1826 by James Henderson in Pulteneytown, Wick, Pulteney is the maritime malt of the far north. The distillery closed in 1930 when Wick went dry, and reopened only in 1951.

It was worked through Pulteney's boil ball stills, fed by Loch Hempriggs, before long maturation by the sea drew in its coastal character. Ex-Bourbon casks held the spirit, soft oak that lets the coastal character lead. Around twelve to fifteen years the malt rounds into honey, citrus and sea air. The cool, damp northern climate slows maturation, letting the spirit take wood gently over many years. Inver House has built its single malt range around the distillery since 1995. The honeyed, waxy core is the signature of the maritime malt of the far north.

Bottled at a cask strength 58.9%, it is rich. Salt spray and beeswax sit alongside light vanilla from the refill oak. A beeswax and a saline tang give it real body. The finish is deep, oily and maritime. This is the salty, honeyed signature of Wick.
