Description
From The Scotch Malt Whisky Society, which codes its bottlings rather than naming distilleries, 76 being Mortlach, this 32 Year Old is a 1987 vintage, an outturn of 152 bottles. Mortlach is Speyside's great meaty malt, its 1823 Dufftown stillhouse using worm tubs and a 2.81 distillation that defies the region's lighter norm.
Thirty-two years in ex-Bourbon carried the robust Mortlach spirit to a profound, savoury maturity, long oxidation bringing leather, beeswax, old wood and worn fruit.
At 50.7% it shows malt, dried fruit and a leathery edge over the full-bodied base, undiluted. Mortlach at full weight.
