Description
From The Scotch Malt Whisky Society, which codes its bottlings rather than naming distilleries, 76 being Mortlach, this 28 Year Old is a 1987 distillation, an outturn of 246 bottles. Mortlach's robust, umami-rich spirit is the work of worm-tub condensers and the Wee Witchie's triple pass, a regime in place at Dufftown since 1897.
By twenty-eight years the dense Mortlach spirit had grown deep and meaty, cumulative oxidation building leather, nuts and dried fruit as the strength eased.
At 55.4% it shows citrus, honey and an oak-framed depth carried on the heavy Dufftown body, undiluted. Big, savoury and full-bodied.
