Description
From Silver Seal, an independent bottler, this 22 Year Old is a 1997 from cask 10090, an outturn of 121 bottles. Mortlach is Speyside's great meaty malt, its 1823 Dufftown stillhouse using worm tubs and a 2.81 distillation that defies the region's lighter norm.
Twenty-two years in ex-Bourbon saw fresh extraction tail off and oxidation take over, drawing stewed fruit, leather and a nutty depth from the rich, meaty spirit.
At 56.9% it shows vanilla, cooked fruit and a savoury weight carried on the heavy Dufftown body, undiluted. A muscular Speyside malt.
