Description
Hidden Spirits, the independent bottler of single casks, drew this 18 Year Old, a 2002 vintage, cask MR221, an outturn of 140 bottles. Founded in Dufftown in 1823, Mortlach owes its rich, meaty weight to worm-tub condensers and the unusual 2.81 distillation devised by Alexander Cowie.
Across eighteen years the oak's ellagitannins added structure while oxidation deepened the meaty spirit into cooked fruit and leather.
At 53.6% it shows vanilla, cooked fruit and a savoury weight over the full-bodied base, undiluted. A meaty, muscular Mortlach.
