Description
From Gordon & MacPhail of Elgin, whose deep stocks include some of the oldest Mortlach in existence, this 52 Year Old is a 1949 distillation. Mortlach is Speyside's great meaty malt, its 1823 Dufftown stillhouse using worm tubs and a 2.81 distillation that defies the region's lighter norm.
Fifty-two years in ex-Bourbon carried Mortlach's weighty make to a profound, savoury maturity, long oxidation bringing leather, beeswax, old wood and worn fruit.
At 40% it shows vanilla, cooked fruit and a savoury weight carried on the heavy Dufftown body. The meaty Dufftown style.
