Description
This 21 Years Old was a 2012 Special Release, distilled in 1991 and matured in European oak, an outturn of 2,772 bottles. Founded in 1816, the distillery sits on Islay's southern shore at Lagavulin Bay.
The peated spirit comes off the stills slowly, gaining body. Matured in European oak at full strength, two decades deepen the smoke with sherried dried fruit.
At cask strength, 52%. The smoke owes to guaiacol and phenols, the European oak adding dried fruit and a dry grip. Tasting notes take in a medicinal edge, a nutty note, a sherried character, smoke and a yeasty depth. A sherried older Special Release.
