Description
This undiluted 12 Years Old was the 2015 Special Release, matured in American oak. The distillery has occupied Lagavulin Bay since 1816, near the ruins of Dunyvaig Castle.
The heavily peated make comes off the stills slowly, gaining body. Twelve years in American oak, bottled at full strength, give a direct, vivid smoke.
56.8%, the cask's own strength. Guaiacol and phenols drive the smoke, the American oak adding vanilla. Tasting notes take in smoke, a medicinal edge, old wood, citrus, a solvent note and a cooked vegetable edge. A cask strength Special Release.
