Description
Loch Gruinart is a Kilchoman named for the sea loch on northern Islay, a fully matured farm malt. Founded by Anthony Wills in 2005 at Rockside Farm, Kilchoman is the only farm distillery on Islay.
Kilchoman handles malting through bottling on its own Islay farm. Matured in oak casks, the wood frames the young peated spirit with vanilla and a light sweetness.
Bottled at 46%, non-chill-filtered and natural in colour. The oak gives vanilla while peat phenols carry the smoke. The recorded notes run to smoke, fresh fruit, citrus, a cooked vegetable note, honey and leather. A peated farm malt named for an island loch.
