Description
One of Inverleven's final vintages, this 1990 was distilled a year before the stills stopped. Gordon & MacPhail bottled it in the cask strength tier of Connoisseurs Choice, drawing 71 bottles from single ex-Bourbon cask 500710 for worldwide release at 29 years old.
Inverleven was a malt distillery inside the Dumbarton complex, built in 1938 for the Ballantine's blend and closed in 1991. Spirit from its closing years is especially scarce. Matured in a single ex-Bourbon cask, the oak shaped a light Lowland malt across nearly three decades.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 53.1%. Vanilla and coconut come from the cask's vanillin and oak lactones, with maltol lending toffee. The spirit has turned waxy and tropical, ripe fruit over polished oak. A small outturn from the distillery's final days.
