Description
A 1985 Inverleven from Gordon & MacPhail, bottled at 15 years old for the UK at standard strength. It captures the Lowland malt young, from a distillery that was nearing the end of its working life when this spirit was distilled.
Inverleven was a malt distillery housed inside Hiram Walker's vast Dumbarton grain complex, built in 1938 for the Ballantine's blend and on the boundary between Lowlands and Highlands. Matured in ex-Bourbon oak, the cask gives a grassy Lowland spirit light, clean structure.
Bottled at 40%. The ex-Bourbon wood gives vanilla and coconut from vanillin and oak lactones over a soft cereal base. At 15 years the malt is bright and gentle, citrus and light oak. An accessible way into a distillery now gone.
