Description
A grain distillery in the malt heartland of the Northern Highlands, Invergordon sends most of its spirit into blends, leaving single grain releases to independent bottlers. This single cask was bottled by Meadowside Blending, distilled in 1987, at 34 years old, for its The Grainman range. Single cask number 1538 yielded 273 bottles, released for Europe.
Invergordon is a grain distillery rather than a malt one, distilling a mash of maize, wheat and barley through tall continuous column stills to a light, high strength spirit. Matured in ex-Bourbon casks.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 46.4%, without dilution, the ex-Bourbon wood gives vanillin for vanilla and oak lactones for coconut, with maltol for butterscotch. Decades in oak have pushed the light grain into waxy, tropical territory, with mango and pineapple from slow ester development.
