Description
Invergordon is the most northerly grain distillery in Scotland, set on the Cromarty Firth in Easter Ross, with almost all of its output going into Whyte & Mackay's blends. This single cask was bottled by Alambic Classique, distilled in 1975, at 47 years old, for its Rare & Old Selection range. Single cask number 22064 yielded 107 bottles, released for Germany.
Grain whisky like Invergordon's is made in continuous Coffey stills rather than pot stills, which gives a cleaner, sweeter and lighter spirit than malt. Matured in ex-Bourbon casks.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 50%, without dilution, the ex-Bourbon wood gives vanillin for vanilla and oak lactones for coconut, with maltol for butterscotch. The great age has turned the spirit waxy and tropical, ripe mango and pineapple emerging over the vanilla.
