Description
Built in 1871 near the fishing port of Buckie, Inchgower makes a briny, nutty malt that has long been a backbone of Bell's. The Whisky Agency bottled this, distilled in 1980, from Inchgower's years under Arthur Bell & Sons, and released it at 32 years old in its Sea Life range. The outturn was 456 bottles, released for Europe.
The distillery's spirit is built for body rather than elegance, nutty and waxy with a coastal salt note unusual for Speyside. This bottling matured in an ex-Bourbon cask.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 52%, without dilution, the ex-Bourbon barrel adds vanilla from vanillin and a coconut note from oak lactones, over a light cereal sweetness. After 32 years in wood this is an old Inchgower, the cask now a dominant voice over the surviving saline character.
