Description
Brühler Whiskyhaus is a German specialist whisky retailer based in Brühl, near Cologne, with a substantial own bottling programme covering single cask releases across multiple Scottish distilleries. A Dream of Scotland is the retailer's themed series for selections presented under romantic Scotland focused framing, with each release capturing a specific cask under the series visual identity. This Arran 17 Year Old draws on a combination of ex Bourbon and Oloroso casks for the bottling.
Spirit was matured at Lochranza for seventeen years in a combination of ex Bourbon and Oloroso casks before being selected by Brühler Whiskyhaus for the A Dream of Scotland series. Bottled in 2024 at 51.6% without chill filtration and without added colour, with the 174 bottle outturn reflecting the working yield of the selected casks.
The ex Bourbon and Oloroso cask combination delivers a layered flavour profile with both cask types contributing distinct character. The Bourbon component supplies vanillin, cis whisky lactones and the toasted sugar fraction from American oak hemicellulose breakdown, while the Oloroso portion adds sotolon, furfural and the polyphenol fraction from European oak. Seventeen years of integrated maturation produces the developed combined profile characteristic of multi cask Arran indie selections.
