Description
G&M's Connoisseurs Choice line has run continuously since 1968, making it one of the longest-established independent single-malt programmes in Scotch. The Cask Strength tier carries individual casks at natural strength rather than the diluted core-range presentation. Cask 18600604 holds 2007-vintage Bunnahabhain that was held for seventeen years in a single Oloroso butt before bottling in 2024 at 56.2% natural strength.
Spirit distilled in 2007 sits in the early Burn Stewart ownership era of Bunnahabhain, after the 2003 sale from Edrington. The Burn Stewart years marked a deliberate ramp-up in production and single-malt focus after the previous Edrington period had limited Bunnahabhain to a few weeks of annual distillation. Casks from the late 2000s now reach the seventeen-to-twenty-year-old window where indie bottlers find their best price-quality balance for sherry-matured single casks.
At seventeen years in Oloroso, the cask sits at the longer end of the integration window where wood and spirit have fully fused but haven't yet entered the heavier concentrated register that very long maturations produce. Walnut and dried-fig markers from the cask come through with depth, leather and polished-oak weight runs alongside, and the Bunnahabhain coastal signature holds underneath: oily texture, light maritime brine, the Margadale Burn mineral character. Single cask, natural colour, non-chill-filtered.
