Description
Distilled in 1993 at Appleton Estate in Jamaica’s Nassau Valley and bottled in 2022, this Hearts Collection expression represents a singular snapshot of long tropical ageing on a pot still rum. Aged for 29 uninterrupted years entirely under Jamaican climate conditions, the rum remained in tropical warehouses from start to finish and underwent no secondary maturation abroad.
The Hearts Collection is a collaboration between Appleton Estate’s Master Blender and independent bottler Velier, focusing on single vintage, single style pot still rums selected from a small parcel of casks. The 1993 vintage was drawn from 13 casks and released in a limited run of approximately 3,600 bottles worldwide.
A defining feature of this expression is its total congeners content, which is reported at approximately 1,456 g per hL AA. This high congener concentration reflects the long tropical ageing, 100 percent pot still distillation and deep interaction with oak, contributing to a dense, richly structured profile.
On the nose, this vintage opens with nutmeg, cinnamon, oak and hints of tropical fruit, balanced by butterscotch and vanilla undertones. The palate is layered and powerful, showing roasted wood, subtle menthol, complex spice and a warm honeyed warmth. The long finish resonates with tannins, mature oak and lingering spice. Tasting notes often highlight tobacco, leather and dried fruit nuances alongside herbal menthol elements.
